August 13, 2019 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - For the second consecutive night, the Naturals' bats could not figure out the pitching of the hometown team. Arkansas shutout Northwest Arkansas, 2-0 on Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Right-hander, Jackson Kowar (2-6, 3.28) suffered the tough-luck loss despite striking out six over five innings and allowing just two runs on six hits. The 22-year old posted a stretch of seven straight retired from the final out of the second inning to the final out of the fourth.
Arkansas used a two-out single in the second inning and capitalized on a Kowar wild pitch in the fifth to extend the lead to 2-0. Kowar uncorked a pair of wild pitches in the contest.
Left-hander, Emilio Ogando celebrated his 27th birthday by tossing two innings of scoreless relief. Local product, Tyler Zuber tossed a scoreless eighth with a pair of strikeouts in front of a number of family and friends.
Emmanuel Rivera led the offense with a pair of hits including his 18th double of the season. Catcher, Nate Esposito also added a pair of singled in the contest.
A set of double-plays grounded into by the Naturals thwarted scoring chances in the third and seventh innings while a baserunning error in the fifth halted a threat against starter, Logan Gibert. The Travelers starter struck out eight over six innings of scoreless baseball.
Right-hander, Brady Singer (3-3, 4.36 ERA) takes the hill for his 13th start of the season on Wednesday night in the third game of the four-game series against the Travelers. Singer owns a 2.54 ERA over his last five starts entering the series tomorrow. Left-hander, Ricardo Sanchez (8-8, 3.81 ERA) goes for the eighth time against the Naturals tomorrow night and for the 24th time on the season.
