STIRLING NETS FIRST SHUTOUT IN 3-0 WIN OVER RICHMOND
October 24, 2004
With 92 minutes of penalties assessed in the third period of play, the Danbury Trashers won a wild one over the Richmond RiverDogs, 3-0 in front of 1,804 at the Danbury Ice Arena on Sunday night. The win was the first ever shutout in franchise history as it lifted the Trashers to a first place tie with the Elmira Jackals.
Blake Bellefeuille scored on the power play in the closing seconds of the first period with assists going to Brad Wingfield and Mike Bayrack at the 19:02 mark moments after a Trasher power-play had ended.
Danbury's other two goals both came short-handed in the third period as John Morlang scored on a pass from J.F. David at the half way mark for his 4th of the season and 3rd shorthanded goal to lead the UHL. Meanwhile, David netted one for himself and his second in as many games on assists by Morlang and Brent Gretzky just 2:48 after Morlang's tally.
Scott Stirling turned aside 34 shots for his first shutout in a Trashers uniform while Jeff Sanger stopped 37 of 40 in a losing cause.
STIRLING STOPS 42 AS TRASHERS WIN 3-2 IN SHOOTOUT OVER ADIRONDACK
October 23, 2004
Scott Stirling's 42 saves and Bruce Richardson's shootout tally were two keys in an action packed 3-2 win over Adirondack in a shootout at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Saturday night.
Following a scoreless first period, J.F. David lit the lamp for his first goal of the season at the 3:23 mark of the second, an unassisted tally that culminated a flurry of shots in front of the Frostbite goal.
The Frostbite then tied it up at the 6:37 mark of the period on the first of two goals from Justin Kelly, assisted by Bruce Gardiner and Sylvain Cloutier. The goal was just the second power play goal of the season for Adirondack.
Meanwhile, Brent Gretzky took a pretty feed from Jim Duhart at the 19:17 mark of the second period for his first goal of the season, also on the power play.
The final period was appearing to look like a scoreless one, but Kelly took a pass from Scott Drevitch, who was simply holding the puck in the Danbury end and one-timed it past Stirling to tie the game at the 15:07 mark of the final period.
Richardson was the only player from either side to score in the shootout, as Stirling turned aside shots from all five of Adirondack's shooters. The Frostbite earn a point, but remain winless as they fell to 0-3-2, while the Trashers pick up two points and are now 3-2-0 on the year.
HEWITT STOPS 42 SHOTS AS TRASHERS FALL 3-2 IN ELMIRA
October 22, 2004
Despite outshooting Elmira by a one-sided 44-24 margin, the Danbury Trashers were unable to pick up their first road win of the season as they fell to the Jackals 3-2 on Friday night.
George Pujacs scored his first goal of the season at the 4:00 mark of the 1st period from Jason Sessa and Derek Campbell, but the Jackals lead was short-lived. For the 3rd time in 3 games, Jim Duhart netted a goal as he scored at the 5:41 mark from Brent Gretzky and Blake Bellefeuille.
The game remained scoreless despite a furiously paced second period that witnessed the Trashers outshooting Elmira 21-7. Finally, Greg Koehler's second goal of the season at the 7:36 mark of the 3rd gave Elmira the lead for good. The Jackals extended their lead on Trevor Burgess' 1st goal of the season on an Elmira power Play.
Mike Bayrack scored at the 17:33 mark of the 3rd from Bruce Richardson and John Morlang, but Bayrack's second goal of the season only saw the Trashers fall one short despite several late chances with the Trashers utilizing an extra attacker via an empty net.
