Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MADISON, Ala. - The Biscuits (34-32) recorded twice as many hits as the Rocket City Trash Pandas (30-36) and struck out 15 batters, but it was not enough as their six-game winning streak was snapped in a 2-1 defeat on Friday night at Toyota Field.
Rocket City scored in the second inning with a home run from Jeremiah Jackson to make the score 1-0, but their lead would not stand for long. Heriberto Hernandez put Montgomery on the board in the fourth with an RBI-double to left field, tying the ball game at 1-1.
Outside of those two scoring opportunities, the game belonged to both pitching staffs and quickly turned into a stalemate.
Mason Montgomery started strong for the Biscuits with only three hits and one run allowed while striking out eight or more batters for the fourth time this season. Brett Kerry surrendered eight hits and one run over seven innings pitched, but the righty used seven strikeouts to avoid giving up the lead.
Both teams utilized seven pitchers combined from the bullpen, with only one hit allowed and ten strikeouts recorded between them. With neither side able to break the scoring drought, the game entered extra innings tied at 1-1.
Montgomery failed to take advantage with runners on first and second along with no outs, as Luke Murphy (2-2) retired the next three batters to give the Trash Pandas a chance to win. A sacrifice bunt from Jose Gomez advanced the winning run to third, but with one out remaining, Livan Soto came in to score off a wild pitch from Nelson Alvarez (3-1) and claimed the walk-off victory.
The Biscuits and Trash Pandas will play in their second doubleheader of the series on Saturday, June 24 with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 PM. Patrick Wicklander (1-1) will start in Game 1 and Anthony Molina (2-4) will open Game 2 for Montgomery.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium on Wednesday, June 28 to open the second half of the season against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The six-game series will include a Tank Top Giveaway on Thirsty Thursday, June 29; a Car Visor Giveaway on Friday, June 30; Princess Night and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 1; a Beach Towel Giveaway pres. by Dentistry for Children on Saturday, July 2; and an Independence Day Celebration along with MAX Fireworks on Monday, July 3.
