Rocket City Trash Pandas News Release

KODAK, Tennessee - The Rocket City Trash Pandas couldn't overcome an early Tennessee lead on Thursday night, falling 6-2 at Smokies Stadium.

The Smokies struck first with a three-run home run by Moises Ballesteros for a quick 3-0 advantage in the opening frame.

The Trash Pandas immediately responded with an Arol Vera double in the top of the second to score Denzer Guzman, but that was the closest they would get.

Tennessee was able to find the long ball again in the 4th, courtesy of a two-run shot by Hayden Mcgeary giving them a four run lead.

Rocket City's Sam Brown doubled and then scored off of Eric Wagaman's single for the only other run of the evening.

Trash Pandas starting pitcher Chase Chaney (L, 2-3) surrendered five runs in six innings of work. Aaron Hernandez, who previously pitched for Rocket City in 2021 and 2022, made his 2024 debut over the final two frames and gave up one run..

Smokies starter Kyle McGowin (W, 1-0) also went six innings on the mound, followed by shutout performances out of the bullpen by Michael Arias and Zac Leigh.

The Trash Pandas will face the Smokies for game four of the series on Friday. First pitch against the Smokies is slated for 6:00 p.m. Josh Caray will have the call on WZZN 97.7-HD2.
