Edmonton Trappers News Release

Catcher Randy Knorr was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a solo home run as the Edmonton Trappers downed the Fresno Grizzlies 6-3 in a hard fought battle Friday night at Grizzlies Stadium. For the Trappers it was their third consecutive win against the Grizzlies this season and their fourth overall in five tries. Edmonton still trails in the All-Time series between the two clubs, 27-26. The Trappers have played much better as of late after starting the season 1-7. Edmonton has split the first six games on this road trip and is 6-4 in its last 10 games. The Trappers and Grizzlies continue this four-game series on Saturday night at Grizzlies Stadium. Fresno has dropped five of their last six games to fall to 10-10 on the season. Edmonton needs a win in one of the two remaining games to claim their first road series win of the 2003 season. The Trappers will return to TELUS Field on Monday night to begin a stretch that will see the club play 16 of 20 games at home.

Edmonton got on the board first with one run in the second inning off Fresno starter Brian Powell (0-4), an emergency fill-in for right-hander Jerome Williams, who was the scheduled starter. Williams was recalled by the San Francisco Giants earlier in the day. Knorr took Powell deep with two down in the frame for his first home run as a Trapper. The Grizzlies bounced back with a run in the third off Edmonton starter Britt Reames (1-2). Carlos Hernandez led off the inning with a single and later scored on a double by Brian Dallimore. Edmonton regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Matt Cepicky tripled with two out, scoring Terrmel Sledge, who had led off the inning with a single. Once again the Grizzlies fought back and tied the game with a single run in the fifth. Hernandez led off the inning with another base hit and later scored on an error by Trapper second baseman Luis Figueroa.

Edmonton regained the lead in the top of the sixth with two runs. Third baseman Scott Hodges led off the inning with a double and scored when the next batter, Sledge, tripled down the right field line. Sledge scored Edmonton's fourth run when Edwards Guzman grounded into a double play. The Grizzlies plated a single run off reliever Ron Chiavacci in the bottom of the inning as Damon Minor scored on a Trey Lunsford sacrifice fly. Fresno loaded the bases in the inning, but Keith Evans came on to record the final out and get the Trappers out of a jam. Edmonton plated two more runs in the seventh inning thanks to an RBI single by Hodges and a bases loaded walk to Valentino Pascucci that forced home Figueroa with the Trappers sixth run. Evans shutout the Grizzlies the rest of the way to record his first save of the season.
