Sidewinders Lose Fifth Sraight

Tucson Sidewinders News Release


The Tucson Sidewinders dropped their fifth straight game 9-6 to the Tacoma Rainiers. Tucson looked strong early pounding out 4 runs on 4 hits against Tacoma pitcher Jeff Heaverlo (2-2) in the 1st to take the early lead. The Sidewinders extended their lead to 6-1 with two more runs in the 2nd inning but that is where the scoring stopped for the home club. Tucson starter Chris Capuano left with the game tied in the 5th inning after giving up 5 runs in the frame. Ron Villone (1-1) gave up 3 runs and the lead in the 6th inning to take his first loss of the season.

Matt Kata sparked the team's offense with three hits, including 2 doubles, 2 R's and an RBI while batting in the leadoff spot for the first time this season. Alex Cintron continued strong hitting going 2 for 4 with a double, R and RBI. Rod Barajas made his second rehab appearence, this time at DH, and went 1 for 4, 1 R and 1 RBI.

The Sidewinders will look shake off the streak with Greg Swindell (0-0, 10.13) starting against Tacoma's Brian Falkenborg (1-0, 1.65).
