Training Camp Report Day 5
June 10, 2010 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Montreal Alouettes News Release
Day 5: Stiff competition Sherbrooke, June 10, 2010 -Training camp may be running along as smoothly as ever for the Alouettes, but the fact remains that most of the guys are on the field fighting for a spot on the team.
This is certainly the case at cornerback, which has seen a strong battle between several players over the team's 10 practices with Etienne Boulay, Paul Woldu, De'Audra Dix and Joshua Harris all in the mix.
"I'm feeling good about the battle, it's competitive. I just want to do the best I can and help my team. I also played at defensive back last year but I don't really have a preference, I'm comfortable with all positions," said Dix, in his second year with the Als.
There's no shortage of talent at wideout either. Even with all the usual big names at that position, rookie C.J. Hawthorne opened a lot of eyes on Thursday as he made at least three spectacular catches that got his teammates cheering.
Another player at centre With Bryan Chiu retiring and Paul Lambert watching practice, veteran offensive tackle Skip Seagraves snapped the ball a few times during Thursday s' practice. "I got a few reps last year at training camp, but I've never played centre. But even then, I'm still comfortable taking snaps and it feels natural for me because I played at long snapper during high school and was a backup for the North Carolina Tar Heels during college."
Campbell happy for his hometown Hawks Defensive tackle and Chicago native Darrell Campbell was glad to see the Blackhawks hoist the Stanley Cup on Wednesday night. "Honestly, I haven't had a lot of time to watch the Hawks this season, but I'm still proud every time a hometown team brings back a championship to the city," said the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish standout.
Tomorrow The Alouettes will hold two morning practices on Thursday from 7:50 a.m. to 11:35 p.m. with media availability following on field around 12 p.m.
