Training Camp Report - Day 9

Montreal Alouettes News Release

Trois-Rivières - Receiver Mathieu Robitaille is feeling the excitement. He just heard from his coach that he's going to be in uniform tomorrow night, in Hamilton, for the Alouettes first exhibition game.

The kid who grew up in Lac-Beauport remembers watching the Alouettes on TV. He was hoping one day to be like them and make a living playing football. After years playing collegiately for the Université Laval Rouge et Or, he saw himself getting closer to his goal.

"I won't lie, it's very special what I am feeling right now. I'm excited, but I know I still have a lot of work to do," said the Alouettes rookie.

Tomorrow he will be on the field with his childhood idols and he is very eager. The more camp progresses, the more the 25-year-old athlete gains in confidence.

"To be honest, I know the play book better and it makes my job easier. I really saw a progression in my game. My responsibilities are increasing, and I am aware of what I am capable of doing on the field."

On Saturday he will battle against two of his former teammates with whom he played in Quebec City. Félix Garant-Gauthier and Nicolas Guay are now with the Tiger-Cats, and played at the university level with Robitaille. "We are good friends, I want to beat them, and then I will be able to tease them," laughed Robitaille.

He said it

"Our players are ready to play and I'm excited to see them in action. We want to evaluate our players, but we also want to see who has the will to compete and win."

- Khari Jones, Alouettes Head Coach
