Training Camp Report - Day 17

Montreal - The Alouettes players were back on the field on Tuesday for the Mise-o-jeu training camp.

On the day before, about 15 players took advantage of a rare day off to participate in the Alouettes' Foundation golf tournament at Club de golf de l'Île de Montréal. While some of them were brave enough to hit the green in the cold weather and rain, most decided to take refuge in the clubhouse to play poker and a few rounds of virtual golf.

In addition to players and members of the management team, cheerleaders and alumni took part in the event. All proceeds will serve the number one mission of the Foundation: helping kids persevere in school.

On the field, the defence was all over the place, frustrating the offence on almost every play. Defensive back Mitchell White, acquired this winter, made a few nice plays and knocked down many balls thrown his way.

Same for Greg Henderson who slowed down the offence's progress and shut them down by defending his fair share of passes. Defensive end Jamaal Westerman showed the offensive line what kind of pressure he can put on the quarterback. On many occasions, he used his strength and speed to make it to the quarterback.

Defensive back Tyquwan Glass made an interception that he surely could have returned for a major as he was running full speed towards the ball when he pilfered it.

Quick hits

Receiver Cameron Posey made a few catches that allowed the offence to move the chains on several occasions... Stephen Adekolu redeemed himself by making four solid consecutive catches following a dropped ball... Quarterback Drew Willy saved his best pass for receiver Ernest Jackson when he threw him a 45-yard bomb in the end zone... Linebacker Chip Cox reunited with his teammates during practice. He was welcomed by cheers and accolades from everyone. His teammate John Bowman seemed happy to see him return to the field. Out of all current Alouettes players, Cox (213) and Bowman (200) are the ones who have played the highest number of games with the team.

Gagnon is keeping his head up!

Offensive lineman Philippe Gagnon continues to train and to keep his head up. He showed up a few minutes before the end of practice today to chat with the guys. His morale is still good despite being on the injured list: "I'm making great progress, I know I'll be back soon. Right now, I am there for my teammates and I will make sure to support them when the season starts." Button 2
