June 6, 2004 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

PRE-SEASON GAME #1 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today defeated the Calgary Stampeders 29-14 in front of 25,655 fans at McMahon Stadium. The rookie-laden Bomber squad forced eight turnovers off the veteran-loaded Stamps side. The Big Blue had two other turnovers – including a 35-yard fumble return touchdown by Sebastien Roy – that were called back due to penalties. Many players had standout games for Winnipeg including Tom Canada, Tom Denison, Cedric Dickerson, Ryan Folk, Travis Ortega, Tony Ortiz, Derrick Smith and Marcel Smith. Perhaps the top star of the day for Winnipeg was rookie kicker Jon Ryan. The University of Regina product connected on six of his seven field goal attempts and averaged 53.5 yards on his eight punts. He launched mammoth punt blasts of 81 and 73 yards. Ryan scored 23 of Winnipeg's 29 points on the day. The Blue & Gold's lone touchdown came courtesy of fullback Chris Cvetkovic, who went airborne on a goal line rushing attempt to find pay dirt.

TONIGHT – The Blue Bombers have a team meeting tonight to review the film of the game.

TOMORROW – The Blue Bombers fly back to Winnipeg Sunday morning. The players will have meetings throughout the day but will not practice.

CUTDOWN DATE #1 – All CFL teams must reduce their rosters to 50 players, excluding draft choices and junior players, by 10:59 p.m. Sunday evening. For Winnipeg, that means they must release 17 players. Visit www.bluebombers.com Sunday for all the cuts as they are announced.
