North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, NC (September 19, 2014) - The ownership group of the Carolina RailHawks, Traffic Sports USA, announced today the sale of their other North American Soccer League (NASL) team, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, to a group of three Brazilian investors.
Traffic Sports USA was an integral part of the creation of the new NASL in 2011, and over the years has played a key role in stabilizing and growing the league. Traffic has at times owned or invested in four different NASL teams, and today with the sale of the Strikers, they are focused and committed to the growth of the Carolina RailHawks.
"Traffic is very excited about the future of soccer in North America and that future will see us focus on Carolina RailHawks FC," said Aaron Davidson, President of Traffic Sports USA. "We have had the opportunity over the past three-and-a-half years to get to know North Carolina and specifically the Triangle, and we've been very impressed. Both from a business and soccer marketplace perspective, the Triangle is nationally recognized and respected. In partnership with Curt Johnson, Colin Clarke, our fantastic players and staff, our passionate supporters group TSF, all RailHawks fans and our business and soccer partners, we are excited about the future of professional soccer in the Triangle and look forward to being an important part of its growth for many years to come. We are thrilled to be able to focus our time, energy and resources on professional soccer in North Carolina and are excited about our ongoing efforts to secure the right local ownership partnership that shares our vision for soccer in North Carolina."
The increase in owners from five in 2011 to thirteen in 2014 is a powerful statement that the NASL is stronger than ever and well positioned for future growth that mirrors the excitement surrounding pro soccer in North America.
"The future of the Carolina RailHawks has never been brighter," said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. "As most know, Traffic Sports (owners of the RailHawks since 2011) is a global soccer company, and most importantly, is a leading company in the marketing and promotion of soccer in the United States. The RailHawks have seen tremendous growth from a business perspective since 2011 and have also experienced record setting results on the field of play. To be a leading professional soccer brand in the United States, the RailHawks must accelerate our growth. The resources and expertise Traffic brings to the table will be a key driver as we work to consistently sell out our games, win championships, and continue to weave our organization into the fabric of the Triangle and the state of North Carolina."
The Carolina RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park this coming Saturday to take on the New York Cosmos at 7:30pm. Enjoy a full evening of excitement capped off with post-game fireworks! It is also Kicks for Kids night presented by PNC Bank and the first 4,000 fans through the gate will receive thunder sticks! Tickets to the match are on-sale now.
