Minnesota United FC News Release

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (Friday, September 19th, 2014) -- Minnesota United (6W-3T-1L, 21 pts) face a big test when they take on the current leaders in the North American Soccer League Fall standings, San Antonio Scorpions (7W-1T-3L, 22pts) this Saturday at Toyota Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 CT. Fans can watch live on NASLLive.com or ESPN3.

"First and foremost, the Scorpions are a better team than when we faced them early in the Spring Season," said United Head Coach Manny Lagos. "Certainly their roster has changed and they have shown that they are a club that deserves to be at the top of the League."

United opened the 2014 NASL season in San Antonio, winning 2-0, in the only matchup between the two clubs so far this season. Reigning member of the NASL Team of the Week, Christian Ramirez scored the first of his Golden Boot leading 15 goals on a beautiful turn and volley to open the scoring, while defender and additional member of the NASL Team of the Week, Kevin Venegas scored a brace off a bending freekick to give the Loons the win back in April.

United are coming off a much-needed 2-1 win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers last Saturday at home, extending its home unbeaten streak to eleven games.

Coach Lagos on last week's result, "It's important for us to be excited about the way we played last week and the result that we got, but we are moving into a big challenge this weekend against a strong team that has some great players on both sides of the ball and we need to be ready to build off last weekend and have a good game."

Saturday's match will go a long way in determining who will hold the coveted number one seed going into 'The Championship', the NASL's four-team postseason tournament. Much like the Loons, the Scorpions are deadly on their home soil. The Scorpions are riding an eight-match unbeaten streak at Toyota Field, including a team-record tying five-straight home wins.

Coach Lagos will have his side ready to play on Saturday, "It's important that we continue to play well on both sides of the ball." said Lagos. "We need to continue to push to get better defensively, and offensively, we have gone through some moments where we haven't scored as much as we like and so it's important to continue to improve on our offensive movement both in the midfield and up top. It's a big game and so we also need to make sure we focus on the little things in order to be successful."

Minnesota United vs. San Antonio is rightly the NASL Match of the Week and will be streamed on ESPN 3 and NASL Live.
