Townsend's Big Game Bests Lone Star in 6-2 Wichita Falls Win

Jake Townsend was all over the ice for the Wichita Falls Wildcats, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Wichita Falls' 6-2 win over the Lone Star Brahmas.

Townsend beat TJ Black with a shot 8:09 into the first period on the power play to make the score 1-0 Wichita Falls. The Wildcats had gotten the advantage when Lone Star's Gordie Helmuth was sent off for tripping. Sam Pzazza assisted on the tally. Townsend dished an assist on Josh Haverstrom's goal that made the score 3-0 Wichita Falls at 5:22 into the second period. He added another helper on Kyle Bauman's goal that made the score 5-2 Wichita Falls at 4:43 into the third period.

The Brahmas' power play was ineffective against Wichita Falls' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Wildcats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Lone Star power plays. Wichita Falls found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Wildcats average 2.8 goals per contest. Wichita Falls could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Wildcats exceeded the 27.2 shots they average per game this year.

Wichita Falls additionally got points from Tyler Ledford, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Wichita Falls also had goals scored by Colin Staub and Will Vosejpka, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita Falls were Nick Farmer, Max Reisinger, and Ben Kucera, who contributed one a piece.

Lone Star put 22 shots on net during the contest, more than the 16.0 it averages per game. The Brahmas could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Lone Star's defensemen bolstered the Brahmas' offensive attack, as they bombarded Chase Munroe with nine shots.

Lone Star was led by Liam Stirtzinger, who tallied one goal. Stirtzinger scored 1:52 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wichita Falls. Nick Blas picked up the assist. Lone Star also got a goal from Kellen Wasell as well. More assists for Lone Star came via Conner Enciso, Ryan Watson, and Todd Koritzinsky, who each chipped in one.

Munroe rejected 20 shots on goal for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Brahmas' starting goalie, TJ Black, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jett Salinas, who stopped 18 shots.
