Worcester Bravehearts News Release

One day after Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds won the MLB Home Run Derby, Zach Tower (Auburn, MA/UMass-Lowell) decided to showcase his own power on the road against the Dirt Dawgs. Zower hit three bombs and drove in seven runs for give the Worcester Bravehearts a much needed 11-7 road win against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs at Doyle Field in Leominster, MA.

The Bravehearts struck early once again; a theme that has been building over the past week of games. After two singles to start the inning and a passed ball to plate one run, Tower came up to the plate and smacked his first home run of the night over the left field wall with ease. Alex Sanchez (New York, NY/Galveston) got in on the action in the second inning, hitting a two-run home run to left center field, pushing the Bravehearts lead to 6-0 through an inning and a half.

Worcester starter Bobby Maxwell (Otisville, NY/LIU Brooklyn) had a nice lead to work with, but was chased after just 3.2 innings of work. Control issues were a problem for Maxwell in the game, walking six Dirt Dawgs in his outing. It was Wachusett's Max DiTondo (Marshfield, CT/Franklin Pierce) who ultimately chased Maxwell from the game on his two-run home run in fourth inning to cut the Bravehearts lead to 6-5.

However, when the Bravehearts needed a jolt of energy, Zack Tower came through once again in the clutch. With two on once again in te top of the fifth, Tower crushed his second three-run shot of the night, extending Worcester's lead to 9-5. This was the final blow to Dirt Dawgs' starter PJ Browne (Rutland, MA/Merrimack). He lasted just 4.2 innings, giving up nine earned runs on six hits while walking four batters and striking out six. He was tagged with the loss.

The Dirt Dawgs would scratch their way back in the game, cutting the lead to 10- 7. However, they say good things come in threes. In the top of the ninth, Tower came up one more and hit a leadoff home run to put an exclamation point on his night. This gave the Bravehearts an 11-7 lead that would hold for their fourth win in their last six games.

Clayton Dostal (Richmond, TX/Galveston) would pick up the win for the Bravehearts, tossing 3.1 innings in relief, giving up one earned run on four hits.

The Worcester Bravehearts next game will be on the road in Bristol, CT as they head to Muzzy Field to face the Blues on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm. They return home on Thursday night at 7:05 to play host to the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.
