Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists came up one-run short on Sunday afternoon as the West Virginia Power held on to beat the Tourists 5-4. After a pair of drubbings the Tourists put on the Power, West Virginia salvaged a series split with the close win.

Asheville build a 2-0 lead over the first two innings and it looked like they had West Virginia right where they wanted them. Niko Decolati, in his first at-bat of the season, lined an RBI single into centerfield to make it 1-0. A tough double-play ended a bases loaded threat for Asheville in the first frame.

Terrin Vavra's sacrifice fly in the second made it 2-0. Kyle Datres scored on the play after clubbing a one-out double. Ryan Feltner kept the Tourists in front until the Power rallied in the fifth. West Virginia plated recorded a three-run rally with only one hard hit ball to take a 3-2 lead.

The Power added two more in the seventh inning but Asheville responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth. Coco Montes homered for the third straight game to lead off the frame and Decolati scored on a Power fielding error to cut the lead to one.

Unfortunately, Asheville went down in order in the bottom of the ninth. The Power were led by Ryan Ramiz and Onil Pena. Those two combined for five of their nine hits in the game.

Next up is a three-game set against the Augusta GreenJackets. The series begins on Monday night at McCormick Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
