Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY-When you have your first 10 points and a 10-0 lead before you have your first offensive yard, chances are it's going to be a good night for you. That was the case for the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz in their 64-25 win over the Arkansas Twisters Saturday night at the Ford Center.
The Yard Dawgz had a complete effort in the win. Oklahoma City (10-4) tied its franchise record for most wins in a season and remain tied with Tulsa for first place in the Midwest Division. Arkansas (8-6) falls two games off the pace.
A. J. Haglund kicked the first of his season high three field goals, and Fred Shaw returned a missed field goal 33 yards in the first 7:32 of the game to get the Yard Dawgz off and rolling. The Yard Dawgz led 20-6 at half time and didn't surrender a touchdown until nearly five minutes had elapsed in the third quarter.
Oklahoma City ended the first half with a rousing goal line stand. The Twisters had moved the ball to the one yard line on a 36-yard pass from Walter Church to Robert Kilow. But the Yard Dawgz stuffed the Twisters on three straight rushing attempts and with no time outs remaining, Arkansas was unable to attempt a fourth down play or a field goal attempt.
In the final five minutes, the Yard Dawgz scored in a variety of ways. Al Hunt returned an on side kick attempt 14 yards; Jon Holland returned an interception 50 yards and Scott Mitchell picked up a Yard Dawgz kickoff on the Arkansas three yard line and ran it in with just 46 seconds left to round out the scoring.
The Yard Dawgz travel to Fresno, California next Saturday to battle on the Central Valley Coyotes. Kickoff for that game is 9:30 Central time.
