STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning (5-9) could not keep pace with the National West Conference leader Spokane Shock (12-2), falling to a 63-44 defeat before 7,527 at Stockton Arena on Saturday night.

Despite the setback, the Lightning stay mathematically alive for an ArenaCup playoff berth, parlayed with Bakersfield Blitz's loss to the Central Valley Coyotes. The Lightning remain two games back of the final playoff berth with two games to play.

Entering the second half trailing 35-19, the Lightning looked to get back into the game. However, the Shock struck first courtesy of OS Kevin Beard's 3-yard touchdown run. The Lightning countered as FB/LB Lyndell Hawkins rumbled into the end zone on a 2-yard run to reduce the Shock lead to 42-26. Lightning WR/LB Phil Goodman pulled in a 6-yard bullet from QB Josh Blankenship to reduce the Stockton deficit 49-32 to end the third quarter.

Both teams traded touchdowns to start the fourth quarter, with the Shock benefiting off a short 1-yard Frederick score and OS Atnas Maeko scoring on a 27-yard touchdown reception for the Lightning. The Shock responded when WR/DB Raul Vijil scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 8:15 left in the game. Stockton's Blankenship connected with Goodman for a 34-yard touchdown to bring the final score to 63-44.
