Daytona Tortugas News Release
VIERA, FL- The Daytona Tortugas (9-3, 45-36) scored in five consecutive innings during their 12-3 thrashing of the Brevard County Manatees (3-11, 26-57) Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. Eight of the nine offensive starters had a hit for Daytona, as they set a new season-high for runs scored. It was the fifth straight win for the Tortugas.
For the second straight game, the Tortugas offense was silent in the first three innings, but ignited their offensive attack in the fourth. With two outs, Aristides Aquino drove in Brian O'Grady from third, who reached on a walk, to make it a 1-0 lead for Daytona on their first hit of the night.
In the fifth inning, Daytona tacked on another run courtesy of Brevard County's Blake Allemand throwing error on a Blake Trahan infield single, allowing Chadwick Tromp to score from second to double the lead, 2-0.
The Tortugas captured two-out magic in the sixth inning. Daytona sent eight men to the plate and scored five, two-out runs to blow the game open. Angelo Gumbs led the scoring barrage with a solo blast to left field making it a 3-0 advantage. Blake Butler and Tromp strung together a pair of singles before Jonathan Reynoso shot a grounder up the middle to score Butler to pad the lead, 4-0.
Ronald Bueno would follow with an RBI hustle-double and Trahan added two more runs with a single to right field to make it a 7-0 lead. It was the second game in the last three that Daytona plated five runs in the sixth inning.
Aquino added the eighth run of the game with a sacrifice fly, before the Tortugas erupted for another crooked number in the eighth inning.
The Tortugas sent nine men to the plate and scored four more runs, all with the bases loaded. O'Grady drew an RBI walk, Gavin Lavalley was bruised by a pitch, Aquino singled, and Gumbs grounded out, which pushed the Tortugas lead to 12-0.
The Manatees would attempt a late rally in the ninth and scored three runs, highlighted by a Dustin DeMuth two-run single. DeMuth finished the game 4-for-4 with the pair of runs driven in and a walk.
