
Toros Trample Mad Ants in Overtime 133-124

Austin, TX January 20- The Austin Toros and the Fort Wayne Mad Ants battled it out in their only meeting of the season at the Austin Convention Center, with a Toros victory 133-124.
"It was one of the most unique games I have ever coached," said Toros Head Coach Quin Snyder. "I'm proud of the way the team battled back. It was a great win."
Both teams came out in hopes of continuing their win streaks. The difference in the first half was the Ants' ability to make shots from beyond the arc (8-16). Led by Oliver Lafayette, the Ants finished the second quarter with a 12-0 run, and a 62-50 lead.
The Toros were unable to close the gap in the third quarter as the Mad Ants outscored them 22-21. Toros Malik Hairston and Mad Ants Sean Sonderleiter and Roderick Wilmont all had eight points apiece in the quarter.
Fighting back, the Toros came out on a 16-6 run to start the fourth quarter. With 33 seconds left in the quarter, Hairston's layup tied the game at 112. Dwayne Jones came up big with a steal with three seconds left in the game. Eddie Basden was fouled, but unsuccessful at the line shooting two and missing both.
Fired up after their comeback, the Toros were able to keep the Mad Ants scoring to a minimum in overtime, outscoring them 21-12. Ants Guard Robert Kurz fouled out in overtime with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Six other Mad Ants(9-14) scored in double figures: Lafayette 23 points, Rashad Anderson 18, Wilmont 17, Ryan Ayers 16, Sonderleiter 14, Kyle McAlarney 12.
Adidas players of the game were Eddie Basden and Hairston. Basden added 12 points, 7 rebounds, and led the team in steals and assists with 4.
Four Toros players scored 20 or more, led by Hairston's 35, Curtis Jerrells 24, Alonzo Gee 21, and Jones 20. Jones notched his sixth straight double-double and 17th of the season with 23 rebounds.
