Anaheim Arsenal News Release
ANAHEIM, CA (Feb. 16, 2009) - The Austin Toros (20-8) defeated the Anaheim Arsenal (11-19) 101-92 in a President's Day matinee game.
The Arsenal came out strong in the first quarter outscoring the Toros 25-19 but the Toros were able to compensate quickly and ended up heading into the locker rooms at halftime with a 45-44 lead.
Even though Austin's Pops Mensah-Bonsu had already tallied a double-double by halftime, he added a monster third quarter where he tallied 16 points and 6 rebounds. Mensah-Bonsu finished the night with 26 points and 18 rebounds.
"The third quarter really hurt us," Anaheim Head Coach Sam Vincent noted. "We had some defensive breakdowns and they were able to jump all over us."
The Arsenal, who were as far behind as 17 points, were able to cut the deficit to four but were unable to get back into the game after the disastrous third quarter where they were outscored 31-19.
Toros forward Marcus Williams played all 48 minutes and ended with 34 points while center Eric Dawson finished with 6 points and 12 rebounds.
Anaheim's Kedrick Brown finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds while Cedric Bozeman finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Toros travel to Los Angeles to take on the D-Fenders tomorrow at 3:30 while the Arsenal will remain home and face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
