
Toros Overcome 21-Point Deficit to Extend Win-Streak to Six

Austin, TX March 30,2010- The Austin Toros faced off against the Los Angeles D-Fenders for the final time this season at the Austin Convention Center, with the Toros coming from behind to gain the win, 101-94.
Rebound leader, Dwayne Jones, was the first to put points on the board after a slam-dunk that got the crowd rowdy. The Toros were able to stretch their lead to four after a pair of freebies made by Curtis Jerrells at 11-7. It was the last lead the Toros would see until the fourth quarter. Both teams kept it close during the first quarter, with the D-Fenders leading 26-24.
Los Angeles was able to extend their lead behind strong defense and the ability to convert free throws (13-14 in the quarter). Though they did not make a shot from beyond the three-point arc the entire first half, the D-Fenders went in to half-time with a 13 point lead, 55-42. The Toros ability to shoot from long distance prevented a larger deficit. Coming off the bench, Dar Tucker led all at the half with 14 points.
After intermission the D-Fenders were able to stretch their lead to 21 after Wright's driving lay-up that gave L.A. the lead, 70-49. The Toros were able to cut the D-Fenders lead to 16 at the end of the quarter after their ability to outscore them in the paint (16-6).
Determined to keep their win streak going, the Toros began the fourth quarter on a 22-6 run that allowed them to tie the game at 86 with 5:57 left in the game. Jerrells had eight of his 27 points in the quarter. Marcus Williams added nine points in quarter.
Adidas co-players of the game were Jerrells and Williams (23 points and seven rebounds).
Two other Toros players scored in double figures: Jones (19), and Eddie Basden (14).
All five of the D-Fenders' starters scored in double figures: Ryan Forehan-Kelly (15), Frank Robinson (14), James Peters 14(), James Wright (13), and Michael Fey (13). Tucker added 12 off the bench.
The Toros (31-16) will face the Tulsa 66ers tomorrow night at the Austin Convention Center at 7:30 CST. Los Angeles will head to Idaho on Friday where they will play a two-game series against the Stampede to end their regular season.
