
Toros Host Family Fun Weekend

AUSTIN, Texas, February 23, 2006 - Appearances by Ronald McDonald and Bob the Builder, sandwiched around an emphasis on children's literacy, highlight a weekend of basketball and family fun as the Austin Toros host the Tulsa 66ers at the Austin Convention Center in back-to-back weekend matinee games. Tip-off is
1 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Toros tip off the two game homestand with a half-hour meet and greet by Ronald McDonald beginning at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. All fans in attendance will receive a pair of Thunderstix compliments of McDonald's. In addition, local children's author Salvador SeBasco will host a pre-game reading timeout in the Kid's Zone before reading excerpts from his book, "The Boy, the King and the Chihuahua", during halftime.
The fun continues Sunday when Bob the Builder, presented by Sylvan Learning Center, will be on-hand to take photos with and meet with young basketball fans. In addition, local children's author Marvie Ellis will read passages from her books "Tacos Anyone?" and "Keisha's Doors" beginning at 2 p.m. in the Kid's Zone. In addition, teams from the Pflugerville and Round Rock Special Olympics will participate in a game during halftime of the Toros game.
Doors open to the general public at noon on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Available parking garages are conveniently located on the corners of 5th & Red River and 2nd & Trinity. Tickets start as low as $9 per seat and can be purchased at austintoros.com or at the nine local Pinky's Wireless locations in the Austin and Round Rock areas, as well as Waterloo Records. The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers. (Okla.) The Toros are affiliated with the NBA's Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and the 2005 World Champion San Antonio Spurs.
