Austin Spurs News Release
AUSTIN, TX - For the first time in franchise history, the Austin Toros advanced to the NBA D-League Finals presented by Delta Airlines with a 99-93 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Saturday night at the Austin Convention Center. The Toros survived a furious rally by the Sioux Falls Skyforce and will face the Idaho Stampede in the NBA D- League Finals.
Four Toros scored in double figures and three had twenty points or more. Ian Mahinmi, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, scored a team-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Mahinmi would leave game due to injury with 7:16 remaining in the fourth quarter and did not return for the rest of the game. Darvin Ham had 22 points and Andre Barrett added 21 and five assists.
"We played the best defense of the entire season tonight against Sioux Falls," Austin Toros head coach Quin Snyder said. "It was a testament to the team to finish the game as strong as they did after Ian left the game."
The Toros won their first playoff game in franchise history and will play Game One of the NBA D-League Finals against the Idaho Stampede on Monday night at 7 p.m in a best-of-three Finals series. Austin will travel to Boise for Game Two and Game Three, if necessary.
Carl Elliott scored a game-high 25 points for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, who finishes the season with a 29-23 record. Elton Nesbitt and Glen McGowan each scored 20 and Michael Joiner added 12.
