
Toronto Rock Opens Training Camp This Weekend

TORONTO - Toronto Rock training camp begins this weekend on Saturday November 8th in Six Nations at 2:00 p.m. at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. The Rock will divide their training camp sessions over the next two months between the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena and the Scarborough Soccer Centre.
Among returning Rock players set to attend camp this weekend are newly acquired players Stephen Hoar and Luke Wiles. Both Wiles and Hoar were picked up by the Rock this past September.
Wiles tallied 54 points (20 goals, 34 assists) last season with the San Jose Stealth. In 2007, he accumulated 30 goals, 52 assists and 95 loose balls in the regular season, a team high for San Jose that year.
Hoar joins the Rock roster after winning an impressive 204 of 394 face-offs for the Rochester Knighthawks last season. He sits fifth on the NLL All-Time Faceoff Leader with 892 wins over five seasons with the Knighthawks.
The Toronto Rock would like to welcome any members of the media to attend training camp on Wednesday November 19th for the designated Media Day when players and coaches will be available for interviews and photo opportunities at the Scarborough Soccer Centre located at 45 Fairfax Road, Scarborough, ON.
Members of the media are encouraged to arrive by 6:00 p.m. on November 19th in order to have access to the players and coaches before practice begins at 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The media is welcome to stay to observe the practice however access to the players and coaches will be limited during the work out.
In other news, the Rock named Chris Driscoll the new team Captain as training camp kicks off this weekend. With former Captain Jim Veltman joining Glenn Clark behind the bench this year, Driscoll will fill an important leadership role for the club this season. An NLL veteran for sixteen years, Driscoll is entering his sixth season with the Toronto Rock.
The Rock appointed Driscoll as an Assistant Captain in January 2007 alongside teammate Blaine Manning who will remain in an Assistant Captain role this year. Rock forward Lewis Ratcliff was named the other Assistant Captain completing the leadership responsibilities for the Toronto Rock this season.
The 2009 Rock season opens on the road in Sunrise, Florida when the New York Titans host the team for the Florida Lacrosse Cup on Saturday January 3rd 2009 at the BankAtlantic Center at 8:00 p.m. EST.
