Toronto Rock News Release

The Toronto Rock announced today that they have appointed long time Head Coach and General Manager, Les Bartley as the club's new Vice President. Bartley will help to develop the identity of the Rock within the community as well as serve as an advisor to Brad Watters, Toronto Rock President.

"Les' leadership in the recent labour negotiations was a big reason for a deal being reached." said Watters of Bartley. "We're pleased to have Les in this position with the team. With his knowledge of lacrosse, the NLL and the Rock he will be able to provide a great deal of guidance to the team for the coming season and the future."

Bartley served as Head Coach and General Manager of the Toronto Rock between 1999 and 2003. Bartley posted a 51-19 regular season record and 9-1 post season record in five seasons. He also led the team to an awe inspiring 37-5 regular season home record in the same time. Since he began his coaching career in 1991 with the Buffalo Bandits, Bartley has led his teams to 11 Championship games, winning 7 League Championships. Four of those seven were with the Rock; back-to-back titles in 1999/2000 and 2002/2003. Bartley stepped down from the Rock bench last season when he was diagnosed with colon cancer but continued to act as an advisor to the team throughout the 2003-2004 season.

"I'm excited about the opportunity in front of me, knowing that I cannot coach at this time. I'm glad that I will be able to take on a more active role with Toronto Rock for the coming season." Les Bartley, Toronto Rock Vice President.
