Rochester Knighthawks announce protected list

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League have announced their protected list for the 2004 NLL Expansion Draft. The date and the time of the draft will be announced later this month.

The K-Hawks list includes former Goalie of the Year Pat O'Toole, franchise's all-time leading scorer John Grant and 2003-04 NLL All-Rookie team member Scott Evans. The list also includes Marshall Abrams, Mat Giles, Mike Hasen, Stephen Hoar, Derek Malawsky, Ryan O'Connor, Steve Penny, Chris Schiller, Andy Turner, Shawn Williams and Casey Zaph.

The new team in Minnesota will stock its roster via the draft, as the team selects 10 players from the other NLL teams. Each team is allowed to protect a designated amount of its current roster players from being selected. Teams can either protect one goaltender and 13 runners or two goaltenders and 10 runners.

The Expansion Draft will consist of 10 selections. Minnesota will end up selecting one player from each of the other 10 teams' protected list. No team can lose more than one player in the Expansion Draft. The teams have now submitted their 'Protected Player' Lists.

Notable names among the Unprotected Players include Philadelphia Wings forward Jake Bergey, Buffalo Bandits forward and team captain Rich Kilgour, Toronto Rock forward Chris Driscoll and veteran defenseman Glenn Clark, Rochester Knighthawks forward Kim Squire and veteran Vancouver Ravens players including forwards Chris Gill, Dan Stroup, defenseman Pat Coyle and goaltender Dwight Maetche.
