Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC announced Thursday that the club has signed Ecuadorian international defender Geovanny Caicedo. As per team and league policies, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Caicedo brings great club and international experience to Toronto FC and can compete for a starting position," said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director, Aron Winter. "He is a player that we have been watching for some time and we felt he would be a good fit at our club and in Major League Soccer."
Caicedo, 30, began his professional career with Huracan of Ecuador and has spent his entire club career in his homeland. Most recently Caicedo played for LDU Quito, the same club as Toronto FC forward Joao Plata.
Caicedo has earned eight caps for the Ecuadorian National Team during his career. The defender was part of the 2011 Copa America squad and his most recent call-up was for a friendly against the United States on October 11, 2011.
