Toronto FC News Release

Toronto FC announced Tuesday that they have acquired allocation money from the L.A. Galaxy in exchange for defender Todd Dunivant. As per league and team policy, details of the deal were not announced.

Dunivant, 28, joined Toronto FC in a trade with the New York Red Bulls on June 27, 2007 in exchange for defender Kevin Goldthwaite. This will be his second stint with the Galaxy having played 13 games with the club in the 2005 season, before being dealt to New York.

"We are sad to see him go," said manager, director of soccer Mo Johnston. "As we continue to build a team, it's important this trade went through because we're getting ready to add more players. It's great for Todd, he's going home in a sense, and it's good for us too."

The Stanford graduate heads to Los Angeles after having spent most of the 2008 MLS season rehabbing an ankle injury. He made just nine appearances, five of those as a starter logging 412 minutes. Despite missing his contribution on the field, Dunivant did plenty off the field and at the conclusion of the 2008 season was awarded the team's Humanitarian of the Year honour. He leaves the team after appearing in 27 games (1,642 minutes), and scoring one goal. That lone strike came in club's international friendly against Aston Villa on July 25, 2007 in a 4-2 loss to the Premiership side. That game was also his first at home since signing with the team in June.

Dunivant is no stranger to the west coast having started his MLS career in San Jose with the Earthquakes in 2003 where he played two seasons before being traded to the Galaxy half-way through the season in 2005.
