Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MO - Abraham Toro belted two home runs and notched the decisive RBI double in the 10th inning Monday night as the Hooks survived Cardinal rally and an hour-long rain delay in a 7-6 victory at Hammons Field.
The Hooks belted five home runs against Cardinals starter Tommy Parsons, including three consecutive two-out dingers in the sixth by Toro, Seth Beer, and Colton Shaver.
Toro, who belted a two-run shot in the fourth, turned in his first multi-homer game of the year. Beer and Shaver have now gone deep in back-to-back games.
Chuckie Robinson took his seventh tour of the season in the fifth. With the Hooks in front 6-4, Justin Toerner notched a lead-off single in the eighth against Tyler Ivey. Eleurhis Montero followed with a two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 6. Two outs later, nine-hole hitter Irving Lopez tripled off the wall in right, putting the go-ahead run at third base. Ivey then jumped ahead of Lars Nootbaar, batting in place of rehabbing Matt Carpenter, 1-2, during a torrential downpour.
The game was suspended for an hour and four minutes, forcing Ivey from the game. Erasmo Pinales was summoned to pitch after the delay and struck out Nootbaar on one pitch.
Toro, who doubled in automatic runner Bryan De La Cruz in the 10th, is 8-for-13 with four doubles, two home runs, and eight RBIs in his last three games.
Pinales recorded six outs, all via strikeouts to earn the win. Carlos Sanabria fanned the lone man he faced, stranding the tying run at second, to end the game.
The Hooks shoot for a series split Tuesday night with Cristian Javier on the hill. Lefty Evan Kruczynski is slated to start for Springfield.
