
Tornadoes tear through Nashua, 12-5

WORCESTER, MA- The Tornadoes decked out in their red, white and blue jerseys lit up the sky with their own fireworks as they won 12-5 over the Nashua Pride at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field with a season high 19 hits.
The fireworks began early when pitcher Alex Pena stepped up to the plate in the second inning and hit a two-run opposite field homer to put the Tornadoes up 2-1. The Pride then jumped out in front with a 5-2 lead in the fourth when they scored four runs in the fourth inning with a bases clearing three RBI double by shortstop Elliot Ayala.
The Tornadoes answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth when Tucker Frawley had an RBI single that scored Jeff Lahair. Austin Wasserman had an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Keith Beauregard and Chris Colabello tacked on another run with a RBI single scoring Lucas Taylor.
The Pride were held scoreless for the final five innings. Winning pitcher, Greg Montalbano (2-0) entered the game in the fifth and retired the side and pitched three innings giving up just one hit and recording two strikeouts. Jamie Merchant entered the game in the eighth and struck out the side. Dave Byard came on in the ninth to close out the game.
The Tornadoes scored again in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The Tornadoes tacked on four runs off five hits in the eighth inning as they batted through the line up.
Pride's starting pitcher Mark Hamilton (3-4) took the loss and pitched six innings giving up six runs on 11 hits while striking out seven.
The win for the Tornadoes improved their record to 20-17 and Nashua dropped to 15-21. The two teams will play again tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
