May 28, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The Tornadoes made the most of their first 2010 outing on the road downing the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium 3-2. A RBI single from Tornadoes infielder Mark Minicozzi in the top of the 7th inning put the tornadoes over the top as Brockton failed to produce another run.

In his first professional outing Worcester native and former UMAINE standout Billy Cather recorded the first Tornadoes RBI in the top of the 5th sending Gordie Gronkowski across the plate for the Tornadoes first run of the year. Vinny Pennell followed with a RBI single this time sending Omar Pena across the plate. The Rox answered back with one run in the bottom of the inning and a second run in the bottom of the next.

The Tornadoes put it away in the top of the 7th and Tornadoes reliever Albert Ayala and closer John Slusarz held off the Rox offense as the Tornadoes managed the victory. Alex Trezza and Gordie Gronkowski recorded doubles-Trezza going 2-4 on the night leading the Tornadoes offense.

The Tornadoes will look to double up on wins as they take on the Brockton Rox in game 2 of 3 in Brockton tomorrow at 6:05pm. Catch all the action with Pete Sachs live on WCRN 830AM. The team returns for the home opener at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field June 3rd against the Sussex Skyhawks.
