May 28, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Pittsfield Colonials News Release

The Pittsfield Colonials fell to the Quebec Capitales 7-3 behind a six run eighth inning rally by Quebec to overcome a 3-1 Pittsfield lead and steal the season opener.

Third baseman Patrick Deschenes (1-for-4, GS, 4 RBI) completed the rally when he belted the go-ahead grand slam off of Colonials reliever David Wasylak to give the Capitales a 5-3 advantage in the bottom of the eighth inning. Right fielder Sebastien Boucher (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) added a two-run shot later in the inning to stretch Quebec's lead to 7-3. Centerfielder Goefrey Tomlinson (1-for-2, HR, 2R) led the game off with a solo blast and scored twice for the hosts.

Quebec reliever Sean Gregory (1-0) earned the win dealing just one pitch, a double play ball off the bat of Welinson Baez in the top of the eighth inning, to end a Colonials threat. Starter Michel Simard took a no-decision in just four innings of work, allowing one unearned run on two hits.

Pittsfield's Jerod Edmondson (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) led the Colonials offense blasting a solo shot and driving in a pair, while centerfielder Jose Duarte (2-for-5, 2B) also recorded a pair of hits. Right fielder Dan Carte (1-for-4, RBI) notched the other Colonials' RBI.

Wasylak (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up three runs, on two walks and a hit batsman in one-third of an inning pitched. Colonials' starter David Qualben took the no-decision, allowing just one run on three hits, no walks, and four strike-outs through six innings.

The Colonials play game two of the four game series versus Quebec on Friday night, at 7:05pm, at Stade Municipal in Quebec City when right-handed starter Chance Corgan faces Quebec's Steve Green.
