Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester, MA (May 16, 2005) – The Worcester Tornadoes today announced that the team has placed pitcher Dan Generelli on waivers. The righthander, who is recovering from major shoulder surgery done last year, will continue a rehabilitation program that should take another month or so. When he is cleared to play, Generelli should rejoin the squad.

A local product of Wachusett Regional High School and Quinsigamond Community College, Generelli was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 20th round of the 1999 draft. He spent more than three seasons in the Sox system before his shoulder began to flair up and Boston released him. Generelli finished the 2003 season in the Montreal Expos organization and attended training camp with the Expos in 2004 before his injury required surgery.

Generelli was one of the first players signed by the Tornadoes in February.

The Tornadoes will take on the Brockton Rox tonight in their first-ever exhibition contest. The exhibition contest against the Rox is one of two scheduled for the Tornadoes during training camp. Worcester will travel south to take on the New Haven County Cutters on Sunday, May 22, at 2:05 p.m. at Yale Field.

Worcester will open the regular season on the road on Friday, May 27, with a doubleheader against the North Shore Spirit. The Tornadoes home opener will take place on Monday, June 6, when the Rox visit the newly renovated Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Festivities for Worcester's first professional baseball Opening Night in more than 70 years are being finalized and will be released shortly.

Less than 400 grandstand tickets still remain for Opening Night, according to the ball club. Tickets for Opening Night and every Tornadoes home game are available at the box office, located 313 Main Street, over the phone by calling (508) 792-2288, or by logging on to www.worcestertornadoes.com. Season tickets and mini-plans are still available, as are birthday party packages and discount rates for group purchases.
