May 7, 2022 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC, one of the best defenses in USL League One, battled the league's best offense tonight, the Charlotte Independence, and the two sides came out with a final score of 0-0 at Erk Russell Park. With this result, Tormenta FC adds a sixth consecutive clean sheet of the season.
Tormenta FC and the Independence battled the first few minutes of the game with constant pressure from both sides through the middle of the field. Both teams continued to provoke their physical abilities, hoping for a breakthrough opportunity.
South Georgia's Alex Morrell had the first shot of the match in the 14th minute, going wide of the mark for the home side. Midfielder Adrian Billhardt continued to prove why he is the in-form player for Tormenta FC. A build-up play by Tormenta FC's frontline ended in a Bilhardt shot aimed near the top left corner.
Tormenta FC had its final shot of the first half after a deflection found Morrell alone against the keeper which ultimately went just wide of the mark. TFC continued to apply pressure and was keen to win in front of Tormenta Nation for the first time this season.
The second 45 minutes saw two even sides unable to break either defense down. Tormenta FC's defense showed off their firepower yet again with another clean sheet against the best offense in the league. The final whistle blew and with it, Tormenta FC's second draw of the season.
Tormenta FC controlled the match statistically tonight, taking over 67% of the possession and recording 13 shots to Charlotte's nine. The backline was consistently strong again tonight, winning 78% of their tackles and making 14 clearances from the box.
Tonight's Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is defender Joshua Phelps, who helped Tormenta FC come out with another impressive defensive performance tonight. Phelps recorded an 87% passing accuracy, along with five duels won, five clearances and three interceptions.

Quotes:
Head Coach Ian Cameron: "The big challenge for us is we've had three games at home and three teams that have come here with little ambition to stretch themselves and make the game open, and that's a challenge that these boys now have to accept. They'll have to accept that teams are adjusting to us and not leaving themselves exposed, and we're going to have to break them down. And that's a new challenge for us, and they've got to see it as an honor because teams are adapted to them to make sure that they try to stop us in any way, and now we need to make some adjustments to break teams down a bit better, and that's something we'll continue to work on."
Defender Joshua Phelps, Player of the Match: "I think you can tell from the boys that we're frustrated to not get the win. To keep another clean sheet is massive against another good opposition. This gives us another boost to move forward to playing Miami. We're playing well; I think we played some of our best football. We're starting to find a good balance between playing and being very direct, so the boys feel like we got enough to get a taste and to go down to Miami and give them a run for their money. Frustrated not to get the three points, but we know we're taking steps in the right direction."
