South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC finished even with Fort Lauderdale CF tonight at DRV PNK Stadium, coming back from behind twice to earn a 2-2 result.
Forward Azaad Liadi scored his sixth goal of the 2021 USL League One season tonight, now having recorded a goal four matches in a row. Italian midfielder Marco Micaletto also scored a momentous goal tonight, his 10th goal of the season and 25th all-time goal for the club (League One and League Two), becoming the first club player to reach 10 USL League One regular-season goals.
Both teams kicked off to a slow start tonight, with a bad foul and nerve-wracking collision for starting goalkeeper Pablo Jara in the third minute. Jara continued play, but was substituted off in the 28th minute and replaced by Carlos Avilez, who took the pitch for the second time this season.
In the 13th minute, Fort Lauderdale's Mitchell Curry fired an unstoppable shot past Jara to get on the board first. Soon after, Micaletto sent a classy back-heel pass to set up Liadi, who scored in the 22nd minute to equalize the score 1-1.
After Tormenta FC evened the score, Fort Lauderdale took the lead once more in the 37th minute, with a show-stopping goal by George Acosta.
Tormenta FC secured another goal-scoring opportunity just before halftime, when Micaletto earned a foul just outside the box. Mayr-Fälten took the free kick, but the ball bounced off of Fort Lauderdale's wall and over the net.
Late into the second half, Tormenta FC made its second comeback in the 87th minute, as Micaletto scored an incredible header over Fort Lauderdale's keeper to bring the final score to 2-2 and earn a point for the away team.
Tonight's Man of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Micaletto who assisted tonight's first goal and scored the second, also recording an 80% passing accuracy and creating two scoring chances.
Tormenta FC now takes a two-week rest before hosting Union Omaha for its end-of-season finale at home and Bolt's Birthday Bash on Friday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. ET. Fans should secure their seats early as this match will be Tormenta FC's final regular-season match at Erk Russell Park before moving into its new stadium in 2022.
With just one home match left in the 2021 season, fans can now purchase their 2022 Season Memberships+, which include all USL League One, League Two and W League home matches. Don't miss a match next season at the new Tormenta Stadium!
