South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
Tormenta FC defeated the Richmond Kickers tonight 1-0 and continued its undefeated home streak. This win, combined with Forward Madison FC's defeat of North Texas SC tonight, put Tormenta back on top of the standings with twenty-five points.
"Richmond was playing really well tonight, keeping the ball off of us, but we finally got a chance and we took it," Tormenta head coach John Miglarese said. "We got the three points, and now it's time to move on to the next one."
The majority of the match was back and forth with both defenses playing strong. Tormenta FC had its first chance in the 43rd minute when Alex Morrell shot just left of the goal.
In the 83rd, Tormenta's Marco Micaletto wins a penalty kick which he converts into the game-winning goal. Richmond was forced to finish off the game with only ten men as Conor Shanosky received a red card in the 87th.
"It was vital that we stay strong and defend the home turf this week," Man of the Match Joshua Phelps said. "We've got an off week coming up, and I've got to give it up to the boys for getting our job done before getting some rest this week."
Tormenta FC finishes their three-game home run on July 6 against Forward Madison FC. The two teams' first meeting on May 18 resulted in a 1-0 win for Tormenta. Forward Madison beat North Texas SC tonight 3-1, bringing them up to seventh place in the League One standings with fourteen points.
