Memphis, Tenn. - For the second day in a row Albuquerque used a big inning to down Memphis, this time 5-2 Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
Former Redbird John Gall erased a 2-0 Memphis lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning during a five-run rally. Three batters later Paul Hoover capped the rally with a two-run single. Gall later added a double and has three home runs and two doubles in two games against the âBirds. Gaby Hernandez picked up the win for the Isotopes pitching 6.2 innings. The right-hander allowed two runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Memphis starter Mitchell Boggs was strong through his first five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth. He gave up five runs on six hits in six innings to take his first loss of the season. Nick Stavinoha drove in both Redbirds runs in the first inning with a two-run double. Jarrett Hoffpauir chipped in a pair of hits for the home team.
The âBirds will wrap up their first homestand of the year tomorrow night against Albuquerque. Hugo Castellanos will toe the rubber for Memphis and face Isotopes right-hander Eulogio De La Cruz. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
