Tony Seaman Wins Tito's Coach of the Year Award
October 5, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release
Boston - Tony Seaman of the Denver Outlaws has been awarded the Tito's Coach of the Year Award at the 2019 MLL Honors at Union Station in Denver, CO, on Saturday.
The first-year head coach led the defending champions to a 9-7 record, which was enough to secure the second seed for this season's MLL Championship Weekend. Seaman beat out the other finalists for the Tito's Coach of the Year Award, Dave Cottle of the Chesapeake Bayhawks and Sean Quirk of the Boston Cannons. Cottle led the Bayhawks to the first seed in the MLL with a record of 10-6 and Quirk led the Cannons to their first postseason appearance since 2015 with a record of 9-7.
With this award, Seaman becomes the third coach in Denver Outlaws history to win Coach of the Year, as he follows other greats, such as Brian Reese who won the award in 2009. Seaman has spent the last eight seasons with the Outlaws, serving as general manager and assistant coach from 2012-2018 before taking on the role of head coach this season. During his tenure as general manager, the Outlaws had the best record in the league at 66-32 and came away with three MLL Championships. Before joining the Outlaws, he had spent 28 years coaching at the collegiate level with time spent between the University of Pennsylvania, John Hopkins University and Towson University. Seaman still currently serves as a member of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Committee.
"We're grateful to have Coach Seaman as our coach," said Zach Currier, third-year midfielder for the Outlaws. "He has contributed so much to this sport for so long, it's been a real honor to play for him. His perspective and passion bring a strength to the team, and his loyalty to our guys is unmatched. I appreciate being a part of his team and I look forward to winning a championship for him."
