Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced at 3pm that tonight's game against the Edinburg Roadrunners has been cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. This game will be made up tomorrow as part of a doubleheader that will begin at 6:05pm. The Amarillo Dillas also announced their partnership with AFLAC Insurance this afternoon which will include free admission on a special Father's Day celebration tomorrow at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. The Dillas will take on the Edinburg Roadrunners and fans will have the chance to impact the lives of children with special needs.

AFLAC is a community supporter of this project and donations will be accepted on their behalf with all proceeds going toward the purchase of custom wagons which help families move children around the home, be mobile, and participate in family activities. The evening will also include special raffles and crowd throw outs on behalf of AFLAC.

Caring for a child with special needs is a task requiring lots of strength, stamina and, most of all, love. In many cases, transporting children and their special-needs gear to and from doctors' appointments, the grocery store, church or just about anywhere, can be a daunting experience. Andrea Ewing, child development specialist for Pedi-Partners at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, came up with a unique approach to moving special-needs children from place to place with a minimum of effort. More about this special story can be read in Jim Crawford's original piece, from September 7, 2005 in the Amarillo Globe News, by typing http://www.amarillo.com/stories/090705/fri_2647727.shtml into your internet web browser.

"Since day one, this organization (Dillas) has focused on community involvement and working side-by-side with AFLAC to raise funds for special needs children is an obligation we are proud to be a part of", Dillas General Manager Mark Lee said. "We always enjoy opening the gates at the Dilla Villa for people, groups, and organizations that make a difference in Amarillo and the Panhandle".
