San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas--- After yesterday's rainout, the San Angelo Colts and Rio Grande Valley Whitewings resumed play in the top of the fourth as the Colts trailed 5-2. The score remained the same until two outs in the top of the fifth; Matt Acevedo committed a two-base error as the White Wings pushed their lead to 7-2. Rio Grande Valley would get one more in the sixth inning as Casey Allen singled in Rico Santana. It was Allen's first professional base hit. In the end, Rio Grande Valley took game one, 8-2.

Juan Diaz would replace Jorge Lugo on the mound for the White Wings in the fourth inning. From there Diaz would slam the door as he earned his first win of the year. The right hander would go six innings striking out seven without allowing a run. Brett Lester was the losing pitcher. The Colts starte went three innings allowing five earned runs while striking out two.

Offensively, the only Colt to collect two hits would be Butch Ballez. Nick Mahin homered in the second inning, a two run shot, which was his fourth of the year.

In game two, however, the momentum would sway in the Colts direction. Ezequiel Astacio made his first appearance in front of San Angelo's fans and he did not disappoint. The contest was set for just seven innings as Astacio would ignite the crowd by striking out nine Wings in just five innings of work. The Colts captured game two by a score of 5-1. Astacio would allow just one earned run and, for his second consecutive outing, did not allow a free pass.

The game remained close in the bottom of the fifth as San Angelo clung to a 2-1 lead. With two outs and runners on first and second, Ronnie Gaines tripled to deep right center field scoring Bradley Goldsmith and Hunter Jobes. The Colts had a 4-1 advantage. In the bottom of the sixth, the Colts added one more as Shan Sullivan scored on a Matt Acevedo double.

The bullpen also did it's job; Jameson Maj entered in the sixth inning and earned his first Colts save, by retiring the lineup, in order. Maj would strike out three in two innings of work. Ezequiel Astacio (1-0) grabbed his first win of the season and Cesar Pena (0-2) suffered the loss.

The Colts and White Wings will return to action tomorrow at 5:05. The gates will open at 4:00. Sunday will be Father's Day extravaganza as gifts will be provided, throughout the contest, between innings. The Colts go to 6-4 on the young season as the White Wings drop to 5-5.
