Tomasovich Lands on the South Shore

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats announced today that INF Alex Tomasovich has been acquired from the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League as a player to be named to complete the August 17th trade between the two clubs.
Alex Tomasovich is coming of his first season in "indy" ball where he it .279 in 79 games with five homeruns and 28 RBI for Traverse City in the Frontier League. A native of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Tomasovich played 78 games for Traverse City at second base in 2015 and was third on the team in runs (42) and hits (82) during the regular season. Tomasovich, was named Frontier League player of the week for the week ending August 16 with a five game multi-hit streak with 10 hits in 20 at bats adding five RBI and five runs scored.
During the 2015 Frontier League playoffs Tomasovich, hit .318 (7 for 22) with three RBI helping the Beach Bums win the league pennant. Tomasovich, was sent to Schaumburg from Traverse City Beach Bums as a player to be named following the conclusion of the 2015 playoff run for the Beach Bums in a deal that sent RHP Alan Oaks to Traverse City from Schaumburg.
Tomasovich was drafted in the 20th round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft by the Chicago Cubs after a four year career at Charleston Southern. He played 37 games for the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League the Short Season A affiliate of the Cub hitting .311 with 18 RBI for Boise.
While at Charleston Southern, Tomasovich wrapped up his four year college career as the leader in doubles (53) and base hits (253) for the program. In his 2014 senior season, Tomasovich hit .361 with five long balls and 44 RBI and was named to the Big South All-Conference First Team. He started the final 151 games of his career dating back to his sophomore year. Tomasovich graduated from Charleston Southern with a business management degree and has a brother Andrew who was a 2015 21st round draft pick by the Oakland Athletics as a LHP out of Charleston Southern.
