
Tomahawks Earn Point in 3-2 Shootout Loss

The Johnstown Tomahawks and Keystone Ice Miners needed a shootout to settle their game on Friday night. In the end, Joey Sofo scored the lone shootout goal, giving the Ice Miners the 3-2 win at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. The win gives the Ice Miners a three point lead over the Tomahawks in the North Division standings.
Keystone got on the board 3:10 into the first period, as Jeff Solow scored on a deflected shot from Taylor Fernandez. The Ice Miners made it 2-0 early in the second, as Joey Sofo scored from the left side into an open net at 4:23.
Casey Linkenheld got the Tomahawks on the board at 14:40 of the second period, deflecting the initial shot from Joe Drabin that bounced off the pad of Nick Kossoff. Steven Quagliata added the assist on the power-play goal.
Zac Robbins tied the game at 8:30 of the third period, scoring on a rebound after Jake Houston's shot deflected off of Kossoff. The goal is the first for Robbins, since scoring against Soo Nov. 14.
After a scoreless overtime period, Sofo scored the lone shootout goal, as the puck deflected off of Jake Gwillim and into the net.
Kossoff earned the win, stopping 40 of 42 shots and all five shots in the shootout. Gwillim took the loss, stopping 19 of 21 shots and four of five in the shootout.
The Tomahawks travel to Keystone tomorrow night, the first game in an eight-game road trip. The Tomahawks return home to take on the Ice Miners Feb. 12 at 10:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.johnstowntomahawks.com or call 1-800-745-3000.
