Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Austin Shaw made 22 saves, but it was not enough for the Wichita Falls Wildcats as they fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, 1-0, at the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Friday night.
Wichita Falls outshot Rio Grande Valley 12-7 in the opening frame, but neither team found the net in the opening period thanks to the strong play of both netminders.
The Wildcats once again outshot the Killer Bees in the second period but could not find a break through, but Rio Grande Valley was able to, putting one home on a rebound.
A shot from Mason Van Tuyl at the blue line was kicked away by Shaw, but the carom fell right to Parker Wood, who snapped it home to give the Bees a 1-0 lead at 13:50 of the frame.
The 'Cats tried in vain to level the contest in the third period, but could not find a way past Nick Schmit, as the game finished 1-0 in favor of Rio Grande Valley.
The Wildcats and Killer Bees return to the KYC ice on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. to conclude their two-game set. The Jersey Off Our Back jersey auction to benefit Children's Miracle Network at United Regional will follow the conclusion of that contest. Fans that cannot make it to the game may follow all the action on FASTHockey.com, with an audio-only broadcast available via YouTube.
