JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Tomahawks were shutout 3-0 by the Soo Eagles on Thursday night at the Cambria County War Memorial.
The Eagles opened up the scoring with a back-handed goal by A.J. Jarosz at 5:39 in the first period.
The Tomahawks got into penalty trouble late in the second period, giving the Eagles a 5-on-3 opportunity. The team utilized the opportunity go up 2-0 on a power-play goal by Mike Sabatini at 16:02. This was the lone power-play goal of the game, as the teams combined to go 1-for-11 on the man advantage in the game.
The Eagles set the final score as Jacob McDowell tallied his seventh goal of the season at 8:21 of the third period.
Former Tomahawks goaltender Colin Brennan earned the win stopping all 19 shots he faced. Alex Okicki stopped 20 of 23 for Johnstown.
The Tomahawks and the Eagles are back in action Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the War Memorial. The game marks the start of Face-Off Against Cancer Weekend, a partnership between the Tomahawks and Conemaugh Health System to benefit cancer awareness programs. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive pink rally towels.
