Wilson Tobs News Release
WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs defeated the North Wake Fungo, 13-2, on Saturday at Historic Fleming Stadium.
Game Rewind
-Tobs got on the board early in the first with a RBI single from Trevor Kelly to centerfield
- Dawnoven Smith knocked a two-RBI double to the right center field wall in the first, Tobs led 3-0
-Fungo reduced the lead to 3-1 on a RBI walk
- Alex King drew a RBI walk in the second to increase the Tobs lead, 4-1
-Tobs added another run in the second inning off of a double play, 5-1
-Fungo tallied another run off of a walk in the fourth, 5-2
- Carson McCurdy drove in the sixth run for the Tobs off a double to the left centerfield wall, 6-2
-In the seventh inning, Smith tallied another RBI that gave the Tobs a 7-2 lead
- Conner Leonard hit a grand slam off of the scoreboard to increase the Tobs lead, 11-2 in the eighth inning
- Chad Frazier hit a two-RBI double to the right centerfield wall for the Tobs' final runs, 13-2
At The Plate
- Leonard went 1-of-1 with a grand slam and four RBI's
- King went 2-of-4 with a RBI and two runs scored
- Smith went 2-of-4 with three RBI's
On The Mound
- Tristan Roberts started for the Tobs and threw four innings, gave up two earned runs, one hit and tallied four strikeouts
- Jakob Ryan came in for relief and pitched one inning and tallied a strikeout
- Peter Masterson came in the game next and threw one inning and tallied two strikeouts
- Cole Hinnant entered in the seventh and threw one inning, gave up one hit and tallied a strikeout
- KJ McAllister saw action in the eighth inning and threw one inning and tallied a strikeout
- Hank Simpson closed the game for the Tobs, threw one inning and tallied one strikeout
On Deck
The Tobs will head to Edenton, N.C. on Monday, June 5th to face off against the Edenton Steamers. The next home game for the Tobs will be on Tuesday, June 6th against the Morehead City Marlins at 7 p.m.. The Tuesday game will be the Read Around the Bases Celebration! It is also Tobs All You Can Eat Tuesday's! The gates will be open at 6 p.m..
The Wilson Tobs enter their 21 st season as an original member within the Coastal Plain League for the 2017 Summer. The upcoming season for the Tobs will see an expanded community outreach effort, increased participation in helping the less fortunate and more exciting entertainment for the Wilson Community. We would like to dedicate each successful season to the Wilson Community, Coastal Plain League Organization, Host Families, Sponsors Partners and the Dedicated Fans throughout the city of Wilson. The Wilson Tobs have played host to over 100 alumni taken in the draft and have produced a dozen players who have gone on to play in the MLB, including Cy Young & MVP winner Justin Verlander.
