Wilson Tobs News Release

Wilson, N.C. - This week we have four new additions to the powerful Wilson Tobs pitching staff. Luke Seed (John A Logan College), Chase Nowak (East Stroudsburg University), Devin Smith (Kentucky Wesleyan College), and Matthew McMillan (University of Texas at Tyler) are next on the press release docket. These four studs bully the strike zone and force hitters to play defensively all game long.

Leading the way on our list we have Luke Seed, a left-handed pitcher who is one of the top pitchers in NJCAA out of nationally ranked John A. Logan College. Seed has committed to nationally ranked Louisville for next year and looks to make an immediate impact for them. In 2019 Seed stuck out 102 batters in 53.1 innings while allowing only 27 hits. He continued his dominance in 2020 starting the short season off allowing only 6 hits in 28.2 innings while striking out 50 batters. To top it off Seed had a batting avg against of, .067 and an ERA of 1.26. Luke Seed will be one of the most dominant pitchers on the Tobs pitching staff this summer.

Next up on our list is sophomore fireballer Chase Nowak. The 6'2, 205lb right-handed pitcher comes to us from #16 nationally ranked (Division 2) East Stroudsburg University. The red-shirt sophomore hales from Wilkes-Barrie, PA and is looking for a big season with the Tobs this coming summer. Nowak was in total control this spring bullying the strike zone with a .68 WHIP, striking out 33 batters in 22 Innings and just giving up 4 walks. At ESU Nowak had 17 pitching appearances, 49 innings pitched, and came away 53 total strikeouts. With a command of 3 pitches and a fastball in the 90's, Nowak will be a staple in coach Markotay's pitching staff this summer.

Coming to us from the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers is senior ace Devin Smith. The 6'4 righty is coming off his All-American performance of 2019 where he stifled hitters throwing 73.1 innings, striking out G-MAC league high 91 batters with a .205 batting average against. For the Panthers, Smith Made 13 starts on the year and posted an 8-1 record with three complete games. He was also second in the G-MAC with a 2.70 ERA and was named Great Midwest Pitcher of the Year. This spring Smith ended his shortened season going 2-0 with a 1.15 ERA. The Tobs are excited for the leadership and talent Devin will bring to the Tobs rotation and pitching mound.

To end off our list is University of Texas at Tyler's go to pitcher, Matthew McMillan. A right-handed, 6'5 215lb sophomore coming to the Tobs from the #19 nationally ranked (Division 2) Patriots. This hard throwing reliever will be a great compliment to Coach Harry Markotay's rotation. For UT-Tyler, McMillan pitched a total of 29 innings with an ERA of 2.79 and came up with 36 strikeouts and a record of 2-1. In the shortened season this spring, McMillan struck out 26 batters in only 16 innings of work while giving up an impressive 6 hits. McMillan brings not only his size but a strikeout mentality to the bullpen. The Tobs look forward to seeing Matt on the mound at Historic Fleming Stadium in the late innings this summer.
