Trenton Titans News Release

For the first time in over two weeks, the Trenton Titans got to play on home ice at the Sun National Bank Center. They got off to a sluggish start in Friday's opener against Evansville, but managed to pull out a dramatic 3-2 win before the home crowd, scoring three different ways (ES, PP, SH).

It was the same song on Saturday as the Titans couldn't find their legs out of the gate against an aggressive Greenville squad. By the end of the first and through the entire second period, play stayed even and scoreless. Unfortunately the outcome wasn't the same, as the Road Warriors did to the Titans what the Titans did to Evansville, scoring three different ways (ES, PP, SH) to skate off with the 3-0 win.

Friday November 23: Evansville-2, TRENTON-3

Things started horribly for the Titans as they gave up the game's opening goal just 1:15 into the contest. Former Titan Patrick Kennedy beat Scott Wedgewood - a last-minute starter when Niko Hovinen took ill pregame - with the first shot of the game. It didn't get any better when Evansville put home a short-handed tally seven minutes later, going into the locker room through the first twenty, up 2-0.

The intermission speech must have been a beaut because the Titans came out aggressive from the drop. In transition after a tremendous Wedgewood save, Andrew Johnston - in his first game after being assigned from Adirondack (AHL) - put home a rebound on the power play to cut the lead to 2-1 just four minutes in.

Things improved further at 15:32 when Bryan Haczyk ripped a shot past IceMen goalie Rob Madore to tie the game. Andrew Conboy got his second assist of the game and Matt Konan - who came to Trenton with Johnston - recorded his first professional point.

The scales tipped completely when Andy Bohmbach stole a right wing, center line pass on the PK. His breakaway deke to the forehand found the net at 6:55 and sent the 3,700 fans in a frenzy as Titans took the 3-2 lead.

Wedgewood (5-3, 25 saves) had to stand tall in the final minute as Evansville got a couple great chances. He grabbed his first win since October 26, and had made his first appearance since being injured against Reading November 9.

Saturday November 24: GREENVILLE-3, Trenton-0

Wedgewood looked like an NHL 13 goalie through the first two periods, making one dramatic save after another. Unfortunately his counterpart Bryan Hince - making his first appearance of the year after a preseason injury - matched Wedgewood save for save in a scoreless duel.

Greenville finally broke through the wall four minutes into the final period when Scott Pitt put one in camped out on the left post. While his was the game winner, the short-handed marker three minutes later proved to be the back-breaker for Trenton. An empty net PPG in the final minute capped off the scoring for the night.

Hince grabbed 33 saves for his first win. Wedgewood was brilliant, but his 35 saves weren't enough.

Streaker: Stephen Schultz - a healthy scratch on Saturday - has scored in four straight games (G, 3 A)

Same Time Next Year?: Despite a couple Southern road swings, the Titans won't see Greenville the rest of the regular season. They split the series 1-1.

Finally A Fresh Face: Trenton will finally face off against its third division foe in Wheeling. That will happen Wednesday November 28th, when the Titans travel to West Virginia to face the Nailers.

(Im)Perfect 10: Trenton's meeting with Wheeling will be its 10th game in the Atlantic Division through the first 14 games of the season. The Titans are 3-5-0-1 in the Atlantic (ELM 1-1, REA 2-4-0-1).

Late Bird Still Got A Worm: Trenton was 0-7 in games where they didn't score first. The Evansville win marked not only the first win in that situation, but also the first time Trenton has ever led in any of those games. They are now 1-8 when they don't score first.

Even Steven: After last weekend the Titans have played the same number of home and away games - 8. They are currently 4-4 at home and 3-4-0-1 on the road.
