Titans Set for 2019 Pre-Draft Camp

May 29, 2019 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - New Jersey Junior Titans News Release

The 2018-19 North American Hockey League season may have wrapped up just a few weeks ago, but the road to the 2019-20 season is about to begin when the New Jersey Titans commence their pre-draft camp at Middletown Sports Complex this Thursday.

Players will have a chance to showcase themselves to the Titans' coaching and scouting staff in the three-day event, which leads up to the NAHL Draft on June 4. The pre-draft camp will feature 120 players divided up into six different teams. Titans head coach Craig Doremus spoke about the event and how it helps the players and his staff as a lead-up to the draft.

"The pre-draft camp is an important piece for our organization. The camp takes place less than a week before the draft and it can serve as a final viewing for some players while others get on the radar of our staff right before the draft," he said.

Each team will play a total of four games between Thursday and Saturday, including two on Friday. Following the last scrimmage on Saturday, the Titans staff will select two All-Star teams for one final game at 3:15 p.m.

Doremus expressed his excitement in this year's event, mentioning that players from all around the world will attend. He expects fast-paced, intense scrimmage, and also noted that players who attended pre-draft camps in the past have moved on to main camp and even the final roster. The most notable example is Andrew Husted, who made a strong impression in pre-draft camp and would eventually record 40 points (15g, 25a) in 93 career games with the Titans.

"Andrew carved his way into Titans lure through the open pre-draft process. He continued to open eyes and impress the staff on his way to earning a spot on the team. Andrew became a staple on our roster for two full seasons and just capped off a tremendous freshman season at Buffalo State College."
