Titans Drop Slumping Dirt Dawgs

LEOMINSTER, MA. (Tuesday, July 30, 2013). And the slump continues for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.

Despite a five run seventh, the Dirt Dawgs couldn't keep up with the high scoring Torrington Titans and fell 12-7, pushing their losing streak to ten games.

The Titans (18-24) were led by Michael Odenwaelder (Amherst) who had a game high five RBIs.

Wachusett (15-28) relief pitcher, Keelan Smithers (Princeton) was brilliant in his first appearance and kept the Dirt Dawgs in the game over his 4.2 innings pitched.

"I felt really good. I don't come out of the bullpen much, but Tim Corey (Colby) helped calm me down and get me ready," said Smithers. "The adrenaline was going and I was just trying to throw hard."

Smithers allowed only two earned runs while striking out a game high nine batters.

"I used my 2 seam and threw it over the plate to get a lot of swing and misses, and I used a slider to get lefties late in the count.

"(Moving forward) I'm excited for the opportunity before going to Princeton. There is a huge talent difference between this and legion."

Josh Raymond (Judson) led the Dirt Dawgs with two hits - one of which was a solo homerun - and four RBIs.

Jamill Moquete (UMass Boston) also added two hits.

Kyle Zaorski (IUP) took the loss for the Dirt Dawgs.

The Dirt Dawgs return to action Thursday as the Nashua Silver Knights visit Doyle Field. First pitch is at 6:35 PM.
