Pittsfield Suns News Release
After going a week without a home game, the Pittsfield Suns (19-21) returned home to face thier familiar foe, the Torrington TItans (17-24). The Suns rode a wonderfully pitched game by Christian Lavoie, and an eighth inning rally to win 4-1 and tighten their grip on the 6th and final playoff spot in the FCBL.
Christian Lavoie and Torrington starter Jason Byers kept the bats at bay for the first five innings of the ball game. Lavoie was especially spectacular and showed off his superb command of the strike zone. Lavoie finished the game with 97 pitches, and 70 of them found the strike zone. Lavoie's ability to pound the strike zone led to his final lineof 7.1 innings, 5 strikeouts, 1 earned run, and no walks.
The Suns scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a fielding error by the Titans left fielder Bob Seda. John Kinne was able to come around on a Frank Crinella single that Seda mishandled and let roll all the way to the wall. The 1-0 lead stood until the top of the eigth when the Titans were able to scratch across a single run.
The Suns though did not allow the lost lead to get them down and used some clutch hitting to bring home three huge runs that secured the win. The Suns retook the lead on an RBI single up the middle by catcher Brendan Slattery. Ryan Olmo then put the nail in the coffin with a opposite field two-RBI double, stretching the lead to 4-1.
With the win the Suns moved within half of a game of 5th place and improved their record to 19-21. The Suns play nexttomorrow against the Brockton Rox. The Suns return home to face the Torrington Titans again on Wednesday at Wahconah Park.
